Healthy Summer Tips

When it comes to summertime, we all want to look our best, but we also want to enjoy all our fun summer activities. Unfortunately, a lot of these summer activities include unhealthy food and alcoholic beverages, which can put a damper on our summer bods.

Here are some healthy summer tips to help you stay active and look your best!

Sweet Tooth:
Satisfy your sweet tooth by eating many of the seasonal berries you will find, including raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and boysenberries. Often, berries are lower in sugar content than many other fruits. They also are loaded with anti-oxidants, which can help prevent cell damage and thus protect you from disease.

Hydrate:
Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to hydrate. Summer dehydration can sneak up on you, and your hydration needs increase the more active you are. Stay ahead of the curve by carrying water with you at all times. Add some lemon, mint, or cucumber to keep it flavorful and enticing!

Veggies and Fruit Are Your Friend:
Keep fresh veggies and fruit cut for healthy snacks to grab on the go. Avoid overdoing it at BBQ’s. Stick to the veggies, fruit and proteins and limit the chips, salads heavy in fats (potato salad, macaroni salad, etc.) and sweets.

Meal Prep:
On top of keeping fresh cut veggies and fruit on hand; keep lettuce and chopped healthy proteins (chicken, turkey, fish, etc.) in your fridge for an easy make-you-own salad for meals.

Alcohol:
If you’re around a group of people who are taking part in alcoholic consumption, drink some soda water with a squeeze of lime and small splash of fruit juice! It will make you feel like you are having a cocktail without the extra calories and sugars.

Summer is one of our favorite times of year! Get out there and stay active, whether it’s hiking, mountain biking, paddleboarding, outside games with your kiddos, or taking a class at Full Pedal, stay active and stay happy!
